A scrapped Air India plane was spotted stuck under a footbridge on Delhi-Gurugram highway near the Delhi airport deep on the night of Oct. 3.

In a viral video, the deregistered Boeing 737 aircraft is seen without its wings, wedged underneath a foot bridge, with only its nose and half of its body clearing it. The aircraft from India’s flag carrier is seen blocking most parts of the highway as vehicles pass by it.

Those who saw the video were left perplexed at how the plane got there.

The airline’s representative told Times of India that the old, scrapped plane was sold by Air India and was being transported to its new owner at the time.

A Twitter user, who said he has a full video of when the plane, which was harnessed on the back of a semi-trailer truck, also posted a clip of the plane being transported at around 1 a.m. of Oct. 3.

“This is an old scrapped aircraft which has already been sold off by us,” said the airline’s representative. “There is no additional information as it involves the person to whom it has been sold off.”

Meanwhile, an airport official also confirmed that the plane was indeed inactive and was not part of the Delhi airline's fleet. “It is being transported without any wings. It appears to be scrapped plane and the driver may have made a judgement of error while transporting it,” said the official.

On Oct. 5, people were still responding on the video post on Twitter that the plane is still stuck on the highway.
