Beyond mobility: How the Tamaraw creates value across the GT Capital Ecosystem
For GT Capital Holdings, Inc., its commitment to sustainable development is reflected in how its businesses create value not only within their respective industries, but also across the communities and ecosystems they serve.
Through its diverse portfolio, the Group contributes to local industries, employment, enterprise development, mobility, and broader economic activity.
“GT Capital is deeply committed to the achievement of the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations. This is reflected in our continuing commitment to innovation and operational excellence across our various core businesses and ecosystem. We are determined to enhance long-term value for all stakeholders,” said Vince Socco, Chairman of GT Capital Auto and Mobility Holdings, Inc., the wholly owned automotive and mobility subsidiary of GT Capital.
A key contributor to this effort is Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP), which has sustained its growth in the Philippines over the past 38 years through its integrated local vehicle production, importation, distribution, sales, and service operations. Through its integrated operations, TMP has contributed to the development of the local automotive industry while supporting employment, local manufacturing, and the broader economy.
Creating new value
In its latest Sustainability Report, TMP highlights the Next Generation Tamaraw’s first full year in the Philippine market, during which it quickly became the most preferred pure commercial vehicle (CV) in the light CV segment.
The Tamaraw represents a key driver of the company's sustainable growth, with the P5.5 billion investment reflecting TMP’s commitment to local manufacturing, value creation, and initiatives that benefit its people, communities, and the environment.
As the third Completely Knocked-Down model in TMP’s locally manufactured lineup, the Tamaraw also contributes to employment and further localization across the automotive value chain.
“The Tamaraw is designed to meet the motorization needs of the country, with a direct focus on providing mobility for the greater MSME sector—an affordable people and goods transporter that meets global quality standards, is durable and fully supported by a nationwide parts and service network, and that sustains a wide local parts supply chain through its expansive body offerings,” Socco noted.
Across the Group
The Tamaraw’s versatility also creates opportunities to support initiatives beyond traditional commercial transport. Within the GT Capital Group, the model serves as a practical platform for businesses and organizations to deliver services closer to communities and respond to local needs.
Metrobank Foundation, together with Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. and Toyota Mobility Solutions, supported the Philippine Red Cross by turning over a multi-purpose Toyota Tamaraw Disaster Response Food Truck. The vehicle forms part of the PRC’s nationwide food truck fleet, which provides hot meals to communities during disasters and calamities.
At Marikina Town Center, GT Capital’s wholly owned property development subsidiary Federal Land, Inc. has partnered with TMP to introduce the Toyota Tamaraw Food Park, featuring food truck conversions that provide a platform for local food businesses and young entrepreneurs. The concept will also be introduced in other Federal Land communities, extending the opportunity to more local entrepreneurs.
TMP’s partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources under the Tamaraw Conservation Program (TCP) also extends the Tamaraw’s role to wildlife conservation in Mindoro. By providing mobility and equipment, TMP supports the “Bantay Tamaraw Rangers” and the TCP Office in patrolling, monitoring, and conservation activities, helping protect the critically endangered tamaraw in its natural habitat.
These applications demonstrate how the Tamaraw’s versatility and practicality can serve needs beyond everyday mobility—from creating platforms for local enterprise to supporting humanitarian and conservation operations.
These initiatives show how GT Capital’s businesses can create value across sectors and communities, with mobility enabling enterprise, public service, and community engagement.
As part of the GT Capital ecosystem, the Tamaraw’s continued development reflects the Group’s commitment to building businesses that contribute to Philippine progress and create value across generations.
