Man steals 53 iPhones on his first work day at gadget store
What a way to spend your first day at work...
A man was arrested after stealing over 50 iPhones on his first day as a sales manager at a gadget store.
According to a report by local media outlet Lenta, Russian authorities shared a video of the suspect taking a total of 53 brand-new Apple phones as well as cases, which he hurriedly placed in his bags. He attempted to cover the CCTV with a mop but failed, and just ended up casually pushing through with his act.
Police said the 44-year-old man also took $570 (over P32,000) from the cash register before going home.
Lenta reported that the thief came in earlier than his fellow employees to open the store and execute his plan with the mobile phones.
Authorities, however, were able to identify him easily via surveillance camera and apprehended him near his residence. While the store was able to get back some of the items he stole with the help of the police, the man said he was able to sell a few of it on his way home.
An investigation into the case is still ongoing, and the man is now in police custody.
