Cebu Pacific cancels flights to Riyadh until Oct. 13

Cebu Pacific has canceled flights to Riyadh amid tensions in the Middle East.

The budget carrier announced cancellations of flights to and from the Saudi Arabian capital from Oct. 9 to Oct. 13.

Affected flights for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday include the following:

  • Oct. 11: 5J740 - Manila to Riyadh
  • Oct. 12: 5J740 - Manila to Riyadh, 5J741 - Riyadh to Manila
  • Oct. 13: 5J741 - Riyadh to Manila

Passengers have been informed via email about the cancellation and can manage their booking here. They can either rebook their flight for free for up to 30 days, store the amount in a virtual CEB wallet, or get a full refund of their ticket. 

"As this is a developing situation, some flight changes may take place in the next few days," Cebu Pacific said in an advisory.

Several airlines have suspended and canceled flights in the Middle East, including Philippine Airlines from Oct. 9 to 11, Cathay Pacific until January 31, 2027, and Singapore Airlines until Dec. 1.

On Oct. 7, Saudi authorities confirmed that attacks against two of the kingdom's international airports, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, were claimed by Yemen's Houthis, an Islamist political and paramilitary group.

The attacks collectively claimed three civilian lives and injured 36, according to a statement from the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation, cited by Al Jazeera. The attack on the Riyadh airport killed a Sudanese citizen and injured eight residents, which included five Saudi citizens.  

A third attack took place this week at the Riyadh airport, leaving 12 dead and more than 300 wounded.
