Mother fakes son's kidnapping for ransom money from his father

A mother faked the kidnapping of her own child with the help of some accomplices to get ransom money from his dad.

According to Colombian media, the 2-year-old boy made headlines when he was reported to be kidnapped in Caribe Verde. It was later found that his mother sought the help of two assailants, who pretended to intimidate her and then took her child with them as they rode a motorcycle.

Authorities questioned the woman about what happened at the scene. Days later, someone claimed that they found the "victim" in an apartment.

As the investigation on the case continued, police burst into the said home and found the child with his mom's friend, who was also allegedly the same woman who told police that her 17-year-old son came home with a boy that fit the description of the victim.

Investigators later learned that the teenager is also a friend of the boy's mother and that he was just asked to take care of the victim for a few days as she tried to get almost 1 million pesos from the boy's dad for fake ransom.

Whether his parents were still together when the incident happened remains unknown.

Colombian media also reported that the victim is now with her father as his mother awaits criminal charges.
