‘Gusto kong isigaw sa buong earth’: Delivery rider flaunts daughter’s Cum Laude achievement on the road

A delivery rider made the rounds on social media after being spotted showing off his daughter’s college feat during his rides. 

The viral photo, which has been reposted by various media outlets online, was shared by social media user Mark Kris Oliver Palanca on Facebook last week. “Pagod mula sa isang linggong trabaho tas makikita ko ‘to. Nakakaproud maging magulang na lumalaban araw-araw,” he wrote.

In the snap, the delivery rider can be seen wearing a laminated photo of her daughter with a text that said “proud papa” and “Cum Laude.” He also had the same photo on his delivery bag.

The rider named Elmer Mallanao posted the same photo on his Facebook page, where he expressed his pride for his child. “Proud papa here! Gusto kong isigaw sa buong earth! Congratulations! Cum Laude!” 

In an interview with PhilSTAR L!fe, Mallanao said he wanted to share his child’s achievement with others in the best way possible. “Inilagay ko po sa delivery bag ko at ginawang kwintas ang laminated picture niya para ipaalam sa paligid na nakapagtapos siya ng Cum Laude sa isang state university.” 

According to Mallanao, he worked so hard to send her daughter to school with the help of his sisters. “Hindi po ako tumigil maghanapbuhay. Nang nawalan ng biyahe sa kotse dahil sa pandemic, nagbisikleta po ako, food delivery cyclist. Kahit malalayo, nagpepedal—umaraw o umulan,” he said. 

His daughter Sophia graduated from the Rizal Technological University with honors in late August, with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration — Major in Financial Management.
