Man wrongly accused of shoplifting in viral video patches things up with supermarket employee

All is well that ends well. The man who was falsely accused of shoplifting in a popular supermarket's Muntinlupa branch has talked it through with its security officer.

"Kailangan natin malaman na in a story, you should always note the two sides," Marco Yutuc said in a Facebook video posted March 16.

Puregold Putatan's employee, who wasn't named in the video, was repeatedly apologizing to Yutuc as she breaks down in tears.

"Ako'y taos-pusong humihingi ng paumanhin kay Sir Marco. Sa totoo lang, naging trauma po iyong nangyari sa akin," the employee said, noting she's fearing for her safety amid the wave of criticisms she's getting online, including ad hominem attacks regarding her physical appearance.

The employee said her children were also distressed by the criticisms.

As she continues crying, Yutuc can be seen comforting her, tapping her shoulder, and nodding in acceptance.

"Nagkataon lang talaga," he said.

"Sana bigyan ninyo po ako ng pangalawang pagkakataon para makabawi," the employee told Yutuc. "Gabayan po sana kayo ng Diyos."

"Laban lang, bow to Him," Yutuc said in response. "Makikita ng lahat kung sino ka talaga."

The employee also addressed netizens who have been bashing her, requesting for them to stop the hate.

"Nakikiusap po ako sa inyo na tama na po," she said, holding back her tears.

In a video posted March 12, Yutuc lamented how Puregold Putatan's security falsely accused him of stealing an item from the store.

He was supposed to buy a particular deodorant brand and kind, so he brought an old one he had for reference. The moment he returned the reference to his bag, that's when store employees made the claim.

He was forced to empty his backpack in front of them by the counter.

Many netizens criticized the employees, with many of them pointing out how Yutuc was questioned not in the security office but rather in an open space where everybody can see him, much to his shame and embarrassment.

Puregold also issued a statement following the incident, saying it was being dealt with "privately, with kindness, and patience" at the time.

"We ask that you allow us to learn from this and improve," the supermarket said.
