The Philippines has ranked 80th in a list of countries with the most powerful passports for 2022.

The ranking, released by British immigration consultancy firm Henley & Partners on July 20, is the latest to its quarterly lists wherein passports are cataloged according to the number of destinations their holders can enter visa-free.

Henley Passport Index Q3: 2022 Global Ranking states that the Philippines ranks 80th, with its access to 67 destinations. It shares the spot with Cape Verde Islands and Uganda out of 199 nations included in the list. In the same period last year, the Philippines was slotted in the 82nd spot with 66 crossable destinations.

While the country made it a little over the lower half of the list, other Asian nations, namely Japan, Singapore, and South Korea dominated the chart. Japan has the most powerful passport in the world, with hassle-free access to 193 destinations. Singapore and South Korea, meanwhile, fell short of one destination and both ranked second.

These countries overtook European nations, such as Germany and Spain at no. 3; Spain, Finland, Italy, and Luxemberg at the fourth place; and Austria, Denmark, Netherlands, and Sweden at the fifth spot.

Meanwhile, Iraq and Afghanistan passports fell to the bottom of the list, with visa exemptions in 29 and 27 destinations respectively.

According to Henley & Partners, its passport indexes are based on the "data provided by the International Air Transport Authority (IATA)" and enhanced with in-house research, which includes the process of cross-checking reliable online data against 227 possible travel destinations worldwide.
