Where to avail of free cervical cancer screening this May 8

Published May 07, 2026 3:24 pm

We lose too many of our sisters, mothers, titas, and friends to cervical cancer. In the Philippines, over 8,500 new cases were reported in 2023, yet this is a fight we can actually win. Because the virus is so common and often shows no symptoms in its early stages, regular screening is recommended.

This May, organizations are coming together this National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month to ensure every woman has the knowledge about this disease.

The CLAMS 2 Project, led by the global health nonprofit Jhpiego, is making it easier to get checked. This Friday, May 8, they are offering free cervical cancer screenings using advanced HPV DNA testing.

If you are a woman aged 30 to 49, you can head over to the UP Diliman Gender Office in Quezon City or the New Taguig City Hall on Cayetano Boulevard anytime from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To be eligible for this specific screening, you should not be pregnant or menstruating on the day of the event, and you must have an intact cervix with no history of a full hysterectomy. Additionally, this program is designed for those who haven't undergone a Pap smear, VIA, or HPV test in the last three years.

Jhpiego, which is affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, is dedicated to using this kind of innovation to help eliminate cervical cancer for good.

“HPV DNA self-collection is a game changer in expanding screening coverage, especially among underserved populations,” said Dr. Ingrid Magnata, Country Program Manager of Jhpiego Philippines. “Through partnerships like CLAMS 2, we are working to ensure that no woman is left behind in the fight against cervical cancer.”

“Get screened early. Cervical cancer is preventable and treatable when detected on time, kayang iwasan, kayang agapan,” the organizers emphasized.

The initiative, supported by Department of Health, Taguig City Health Office, UP Diliman Gender Office, Women Workers for Health Empowerment Network, DOLE Bureau of Working Conditions, and Jhpiego, also aims to roll out in other key cities such as Davao City and Cebu City.
