Arroceros Forest Park records 5 degrees cooler temperature than Manila's heat index
The Arroceros Forest Park, known as the last lung of Manila, was recorded to be 5 degrees Celsius cooler than the actual heat index in the city.
According to a News5 report on Tuesday, April 23, the two-hectare nature park in Manila has recorded 36 degrees Celsius, 5 degrees Celsius cooler than the city’s 41°C, which falls under “Extreme Caution" in PAGASA's heat index.
The park, located on the south bank of the Pasig River near Quezon Bridge around the Lawton area, was established in 1993 for recreational and educational activities as well as to provide a breather in nature amid the highly urbanized city of Manila.
It houses over 60 species of trees and more than 8,000 ornamental plants which all significantly contribute to providing clean air.
In 2022, the Manila LGU inaugurated an additional 5,100 square meters of land to further expand the park, extending to a total land mass of 2.71 hectares, as per the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) report.
Visitors can expect elevated walkways, a pedestrian trail bridge, a fountain, a Koi pond, a meditation area, and a vertical garden, among others.
The Arroceros Forest Park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entrance is free.
