Alex Eala's historic Wimbledon campaign has ended after falling to Italy's Jasmine Paolini in her fourth match at the tennis tournament.

During her clash against Paolini in Round 16, Eala dropped the first set, 4-6, but responded strongly in the second, taking it 6-4 to force a deciding set.

However, Paolini, who is World No. 17, regained control in the third, closing the match with a 6-3 score.

Despite the loss, Eala’s Wimbledon campaign has become one for Philippine tennis history.

The 21-year-old opened her run with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win over Mexico’s Renata Zarazúa on June 30, becoming the first Filipino player to win a singles main-draw match at the grass-court Grand Slam.

She followed that breakthrough by rallying past Australia’s Maya Joint, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, in the second round, earning revenge after losing to Joint at the Lexus Eastbourne Open the previous year.

Eala then delivered the biggest win of her Wimbledon run so far when she won against defending champion and third seed Iga Świątek, 7-6 (11-9), 6-2. The result made her the first Filipino to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam singles event.

Eala dedicated her latest milestone to her supporters, family, and young girls dreaming of following in her footsteps.
