Alex Eala's Mubadala DC Open final match vs Jessica Pegula postponed to Aug. 4

The women's final at the Mubadala DC Open between Alex Eala and Jessica Pegula has been postponed to 12:00 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4 (Philippine time) due to rain. 

Originally scheduled for 12 p.m. on Aug. 2 (midnight of Aug. 3, Philippine time), the match was stopped after the first set because of scattered thunderstorms. About three hours after the final began, Pegula, World No. 3, and Eala, World No. 28, resumed playing. Officials, however, suspended the match at 3:57 p.m. (3:57 a.m., Philippine time) when it began to rain again midway through the second set. 

Currently, Pegula leads 6–4, 1–2. 

Eala has been on a roll since winning her first match at the Mubadala DC Open against Zheng Qinwen on July 28, 4–6, 6–4, 6–1. The victory propelled the Filipina to the second round, where she defeated defending champion Leylah Fernandez 6–2, 7–6 (7/1) on July 30. 

In the Saturday semi-final match, Eala stunned four-time Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka in a straight-set win 6–4, 6–2. 

If Eala defeats Pegula in the final, the Filipina will clinch her first WTA title.
