Nora Aunor to be honored with necrological services, state funeral on April 22

National Artist for Film and Broadcast Nora Aunor will be honored with a state funeral on April 22.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts announced that the tribute will begin with arrival honors at 8:30 a.m. Necrological services will take place at the Metropolitan Theater on Tuesday at 9 a.m.

The state funeral rites are set to take place at 12 p.m. at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.

This memorial service is accessible to the public, but seating is limited. Those who wish to attend may register and get tickets via Ticketmelon.

Fans may also watch a livestream of the necrological tribute and state funeral via NCCA and the Cultural Center of the Philippines' Facebook pages.

For Aunor's state funeral, the following roads will be closed starting 7 a.m.: Mehan Garden to Quezon Boulevard Bridge northbound, and N. Lopez Street (northbound) from N. Lopez /Villegas intersection heading toward Universidad de Manila. 

The Manila Police District also advised that parking from Taft Avenue to Mehan Garden will be one-sided and urged motorists to take alternate routes like McArthur Bridge to Sta. Cruz and Jones Bridge to Binondo.

Aunor died at the age of 71 on April 16. Her son Ian de Leon told GMA News' 24 Oras that the veteran actress died of acute respiratory failure.

Known as the "Superstar of Philippine Cinema," Aunor became known for the films Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos (1976), Minsa'y Isang Gamu-gamo (1976), Himala (1982), Bulaklak sa City Jail (1984), The Flor Contemplacion Story (1995), and Thy Womb (2012).

During her five-decade career in acting, Aunor got over 200 acting nominations and awards here and elsewhere, the most for an actor in the Philippines. She was nominated at the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences or FAMAS Awards a record 17 times. She was also bestowed the Gawad CCP for Film and Broadcast Arts by the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2015. Her acting prowess was also recognized abroad, including in Africa, Europe, Australia, and North America, while her singing talent bagged her several Awit Awards and Philippine Recording Distributors Association Awards.

She was named National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts in 2022.

Aunor was married to veteran actor Christopher De Leon. They have one biological child, Ian, and four adopted children: Lotlot De Leon, Matet De Leon, Kiko, and Kenneth. Their marriage was dissolved in 1996.
