President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has accepted Jaime Santiago's resignation as the director of the National Bureau of Investigation.

Santiago made the announcement during a flag ceremony on Oct. 27.

"I was informed that the President finally accepted my irrevocable resignation. So, within the day, or these days to come, lalabas na ang order, magkakaroon na kayo ng panipagong leader," he told NBI employees.

"Hayaan niyong magpasalamat ako sa inyo during my stay here, mga suporta ninyo, maraming maraming salamat sa inyo," he continued.

Santiago submitted his resignation letter back in August, claiming that there were "detractors" and "those who have sinister interest" trying to blemish his reputation.

"I cannot allow this seemingly orchestrated move to blacken my reputation which I molded through the years. With this, I would like to tender my irrevocable resignation to take effect immediately upon the appointment of my reliever, in order not to disrupt the smooth flow of operations," Santiago said in the letter addressed to Marcos.

"I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude for giving me the privilege to be part of your administration. Rest be assured that I will continue supporting your administration," he added.

According to The Philippine STAR, Malacañang has now appointed former NBI assistant director Lito Magno as officer-in-charge of the agency. He is a veteran agent and lawyer who previously led the NBI offices in Northern Mindanao and Central Luzon.
