Mayon Volcano erupts; PHIVOLCS raises Alert Level 3
A moderately explosive eruption occurred at Mayon Volcano on Oct. 30, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.
The volcano emitted a rapidly ascending ash plume three kilometers above the crater at 11:53 a.m. on Friday.
PHIVOLCS said winds dispersed the plume west-southwestward and that ashfall is expected in Daraga, Guinobatan, and adjacent municipalities of Albay.
Alert Level 3 has been raised, meaning Mayon is in a phase of "magmatic eruption, with increased chances of lava flows and hazardous pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) or uson affecting the upper to middle slopes of the volcano in the immediate days to weeks."
The agency has recommended evacuation of the 6-km radius permanent danger zone and has warned against PDCs, lahars, and sediment-laden streamflows.

It also called on civil aviation authorities to advise against flying close to the volcano's summit.
