Asia’s top Para athletes are set to gather in Japan for the 2026 Asian Para Games.

The fifth edition of the Games will take place in Aichi Prefecture and the city of Nagoya from Oct. 18 to 24. It will bring together around 3,000 athletes from 45 national Paralympic committees under the theme “Imagine One Heart.”

According to the Asian Paralympic Committee, the event will feature 18 sports, all of which are also part of the Paralympic Games program.

Here’s what you need to know about the Asian Para Games 2026.

The swimming team features standout athletes including Ernie Gawilan, gold medalist in the men’s 400-meter freestyle S7 at the 2022 Asian Para Games, and Gary Bejino, who claimed two bronze medals at the same event in Hangzhou, China. They are joined by promising swimmer Angel Mae Otom.

Meanwhile, the athletics delegation includes Alyana Nuñez, a double gold medalist in javelin and shot put at the 2026 ASEAN Para Games in Thailand, and Cendy Asusano, who also captured gold in women’s shot put. Completing the lineup is veteran wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan, who brings valuable Paralympic Games experience to the national team.

Philippine Paralympic Committee President Mike Barredo remains confident in the delegation's performance, even without chess—a sport that contributed eight of the country's 10 gold medals in Hangzhou in 2023.

“We promise to do better even without chess,” he said.
