Heads up, commuters: LRT-1 and LRT-2 operators will begin implementing fare hikes starting Aug. 2.
On Monday, June 19, the Department of Transportation announced a new fare matrix showing a P2.29 increase as a starting fare (P13.29 from P11), with an additional 21 centavos for every kilometer (P1.21 from P1) traveled at the LRT-1 and LRT-2.

The fare adjustments at the LRT-2 are as follows:
“We at the Department of Transportation believe that this fare adjustment will contribute to maintaining affordable mass transportation services for the two commuter-train lines,” Asec. Jorgette Aquino said.
According to Aquino, LRTA plans to allocate about P110 million for its maintenance, operating expenses, and repairs of the rail systems and facilities.
