MTRCB summons E.A.T. after host Wally Bayola uttered profanity during show

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has issued a Notice to Appear and Testify to the producers of noontime variety show E.A.T. after host Wally Bayola used profanity on the air.

The incident took place during the show's "Sugod Bahay Mga Kapatid" segment. In it, Bayola and fellow host Jose Manalo were doing a skit when the former suddenly shouted the word "P*tang*na!"

The MTRCB, which is headed by Tito Sotto's daughter Diorella Sotto-Antonio, stated that the scene "is in violation of Section 2 (B), Chapter IV of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Presidential Decree No. 1986."

The section states that "obscene, profane, blasphemous and sexually suggestive language shall not be allowed."

The statement stressed that any violation of PD No. 1986 "shall be penalized with suspension or cancellation of permits and/or licenses issued by the Board and/or with the imposition of fines and other administrative penalty/penalties."

The incident, which happened on Aug. 10, was not addressed during the show until the next day, where Bayola had publicly apologized for his actions.

Acknowledging the issue, Manalo stressed that they needed to set things right and correct the "unintentional" mistake, sharing that they were bombarded with online messages and phone calls from viewers who were troubled by Bayola's profanity incident.

'Yun ang pinakaimportante," Manalo said.

Manalo then called Bayola to stand next to him so he could personally offer his amends to the public.

Manalo then added, "Mas maganda ‘yung ganon, hindi tayo nagmamatigasan… Ang importante ay humingi tayo ng kapatawaran."

A similar incident happened to E.A.T.'s rival noontime show It's Showtime back in late July, where the MTRCB summoned hosts Vice Ganda and Ion Perez because of a scene where they ate cake icing off of their fingers.
