Han So Hee's mother has been arrested for allegedly operating illegal gambling hubs for years, according to Korean media.

Multiple outlets including TV Chosun, Allkpop, and Koreaboo reported that the actress' mom—known as Ms. Shin—was taken into custody early this week in connection to her alleged involvement in 12 illegal gambling establishments in Ulsan, Wonju, and other cities.

She's accused of using "proxy owners" in operating the said dens since 2021, asking customers to play games at a certain website after buying credits.

According to Allkpop, Ms. Shin has previously been slapped with complaints in line with fraud and other related offenses.

In July 2020, Han So Hee talked about her mother's unpaid debts as she confirmed that some were made under her name. "I learned that she had put my name in the debt documents without my knowledge and that my name was involved in a debt so large that I could not handle it," she wrote in a blog post, as reported by Soompi. "I was so young at the time, and through my immature judgment, I thought that the only solution was to repay the debt in her stead. However, I think that that ended up causing more victims in the end, so I apologize."

The Korean star revealed at the time that she was no longer in contact with her mother.

Two years later, Han So Hee's agency 9ato Entertainment said Ms. Shin "used a bank account under Han So Hee’s name in the process of borrowing money" and that "similar cases happened a few more times."

"There was even a case involving the forgery of a private document. Due to these series of cases, a civil trial was carried out, and the court drew a clear line that Han So Hee had nothing to do with these cases," her management said, according to Soompi.

Han So Hee began her acting career with several supporting roles in dramas like Money Flower in 2017 and 100 Days My Prince in 2018. In 2020, she became the lead of The World of the Married. She's also famous for her characters in Nevertheless and My Name.
