'Aswang' drug war docu on Duterte to be streamed for free until March 18
A 2019 documentary about the Duterte administration’s bloody war on drugs will be available for streaming for free until Tuesday, March 18.
Human rights learning center Active Vista announced on its social media pages that Aswang will be available for free streaming on this link for a week, from March 11 to 18.
Directed by Alyx Arumpac, the documentary centers “on people whose fates entwine with the growing violence during two years of killings in Manila.”
“When Rodrigo Duterte is voted president of the Philippines, he sets in motion machinery of death to execute suspected drug peddlers, users, and small-time criminals,” the logline read.
“With Duterte’s arrest, the fight for justice is far from over. Our duty remains clear: to keep telling the victims’ stories and demand accountability for his crimes against humanity,” Active Vista captioned its post.
This came after the former president was arrested on Tuesday, March 11 for his alleged crime against humanity. He was brought to the Villamor Air Base upon arriving at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport from Hong Kong.
The warrant, obtained by The Philippine STAR, stated that he was being arrested for murder, torture, and rape—which is part of the 15 forms of crimes against humanity under the Rome Statute.
While being held in police custody, Duterte questioned his arrest, stressing that the ICC no longer has jurisdiction as the country has withdrawn from its membership in the international tribunal.
The Duterte administration launched its flagship bloody war on drugs called Oplan Tokhang in 2016, which saw the execution of thousands of suspected drug peddlers, users, and small-time criminals.
Duterte is expected to be turned over to The Hague in the Netherlands, where the ICC tribunal is based, as soon as possible.
