Sprint legend Lydia De Vega in 'very critical condition.' Here's where you can donate to help

Sprint legend Lydia De Vega is in "very critical condition" due to medical complications brought by her longstanding fight with Breast cancer, and her family has reached out for financial assistance.

De Vega's daughter, former DLSU Lady Spike Stephanie Mercado-de Koenigswarter, shared that her mother was diagnosed in 2018 and has been silently fighting the sickness for four years. As of late, her conditioning has been "quickly worsening" amid brain surgery and other procedures.

"I am requesting everyone to please pray for her in this desperate time of need. If anyone would like to assist financially to cover her medical expenses, any donation would be deeply and whole-heartedly appreciated," Stephanie wrote.

Once dubbed as the "Asia's Fastest Woman", De Vega serves as one of the most celebrated Filipino athletes in history. She brought home the Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) gold nine times for the country. She has also brought gold and glory to the country during the Asian Games and Asian Athletics Championships. 

De Vega retired from track and field in 1994 but the 57-year-old has been an active figure in the sports community ever since.

Her last public appearance was when she was in 2019 when she was one of the flag bearers during 30th SEAG at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
