A man has died after slipping and falling off the edge of the Grand Canyon.

According to ABC News, the Mohave County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened at Guano Point on the canyon's western rim on the Hualapai Reservation. The Guano Point is famous for its scenic perspective of the Grand Canyon.

Authorities responded to a call for recovery by the Hualapai Nation Thursday afternoon.

The unnamed 65-year-old was located by a search-and-rescue team at roughly 130 feet down into the canyon on a pile of rocks.

Once recovered, the body was transported to the Mohave County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Hualapai Nation Police Department, Hualapai Nation Fire, and Grand Canyon West security also assisted in the recovery, per the sheriff's office.

The Grand Canyon Resort Corporation, which manages the Grand Canyon West area, said it is "deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life that occurred at the Grand Canyon."

"The Grand Canyon exists to share the awe and beauty of its sacred land with the world, and we are committed to providing a safe and meaningful experience for all who visit. In the wake of this tragedy, our focus is on supporting those affected," the statement read.
