Wisconsin waitress receives P55,600 tip during Christmas shift

Happy holidays indeed for a waitress in the United States, as she received a $1,000 tip (P55,600) during her Christmas Day shift.

The Wisconsin State Journal reported that Callie Blue, 29, was working around 6 a.m. at Gus's Diner in Madison City when she chatted with one of the few customers that time.

The customer, Michael Johnson, is the president and chief executive officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County, which is involved in youth development.

“He came in, he got breakfast, so it’s easy to chitchat with people when there’s not much going on at that time of the day,"" Blue is quoted as saying.

As Johnson was leaving, he left her a $1,000 tip.

“I walked in, she was smiling. She was happy to be there. We talked for about 45 minutes," Johnson is quoted as saying.

He said they're looking for people in need as part of their Pay it Forward campaign. The tip came not from the club but from contributions from hundreds of people, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.

Twelve other servers also got hefty tips, though less than Blue's.

As for Blue, she said she'll use the "amazing" and "shocking" tip to pay some of her year-end expenses and feed her four horses.

“People ask if I knew who Michael Johnson was when he came in,” she is quoted as saying. “I had no idea until he told me. Customer service is so important and no matter who you’re serving, you should treat everyone the same.”
