UP's famous Mang Larry's Isawan opens branch near UST

Mang Larry's Isawan, the popular ihawan inside the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman campus, has opened a branch near the University of Santo Tomas (UST).

"WE’RE IN MANILA!!" Mang Larry's Isawan Facebook page announced on Nov. 21. The stall found a home at Fusebox Lifestyle Complex, a food park on Asturias Street along Dapitan.

The page noted that orders may be placed on the page and have them picked up via popular ride hailing apps like Lalamove, Grab, Toktok, Mr. Speedy, and Angkas.

Mang Larry's Isawan also thanked patrons during its UST branch's soft launching. The grand opening of the new branch will be on Nov. 28, it said.

First opened in 1984, Mang Larry's Isawan serves grilled Pinoy favorites in skewers like pork barbecue, isaw manok, isaw baboy, balunbalunan, tenga, and atay. It also has larger grilled items like liempo, bangus, and pusit.

It also offers fried street food like fish ball, kwek kwek, and other "tusok-tusok" items, chicharon bulaklak, chicken skin, butcheron and fries, as well as "silog" rice meals, beef pares, and noodles.

The South China Morning Post in 2019 noted that the stall, frequented by people from all walks of life including celebrities and politicians, sells about 4,000 skewers a day. This translates to an income of about a million pesos monthly.

Since becoming a fixture inside UPD, Mang Larry's Isawan also opened branches along the nearby streets of Magiting and Maginhawa.
