Tourist killed by lightning amid Greece storms
A 58-year-old German tourist died after being struck by lightning on the Greek island of Rhodes, reports said, as the Aegean Sea was pummelled by a storm front for a second day.
State agency ANA said the accident occurred on a beach near the resort of Lardos where the woman was walking with her husband, who was also hurt.
The Greek civil protection ministry on Friday said Rhodes, alongside the broader Dodecanese island group, would be hit by storms on Saturday.
On Thursday, an elderly shepherd was found dead on the island of Crete amid flooding caused by heavy rainfall that damaged roads and bridges and carried away cars.
Additional rainfall is expected in Crete through to Sunday.
State TV ERT said the equivalent of two years' worth of rain in Athens was likely to fall in Crete by Sunday.
Winds of up to 88 kilometers (55 miles) an hour have confined many ferries to port since Thursday, disrupting connections with many Aegean Sea islands.
