Sara Duterte's supporters choose Bong Go as second pick for president—survey
Vice President Sara Duterte 's supporters are leaning towards Sen. Bong Go as their as their secondary choice for the presidency, while Sen. Raffy Tulfo is the leading alternative among backers of former vice president Leni Robredo, according to a recent survey.
In the latest Philippine Public Opinion Monitor survey conducted by WR Numero, a total of 1,455 Filipinos were asked which presidential candidate they would support in the 2028 elections if their first choice would be unable to run.
Around 35% of Durterte supporters answered that Go is their most preferred second choice candidate, followed by Tulfo (30%) and Robredo (11%).
Their other pics include Sen. Bam Aquino, Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Education Secretary Sonny Angara, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, and Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon, but each would only receive 1% support from Duterte voters if the vice president is excluded from the ballot.
About 19% are still undecided on their second pick.
As for Robredo's supporters, about 33% of them chose Tulfo as their second choice candidate. Trailing behind are Sen. Francis Pangilinan (17%), Aquino (12%), and Hontiveros (11%).
However, the survey saw that a small segment of Robredo supporters still considered Duterte and admin-allied contenders as their next preferred candidate for president.
Duterte obtained 4%, Go garnered 2%, while cabinet secretaries Angara, Remulla, and Dizon each drew 1% support.
Around 18% of Robredo’s supporters have yet to determine their alternative choice for president.
Meanwhile, among Go's supporters, Duterte is the most common second-choice candidate for president at 47%, followed by Tulfo (31%), Robredo (11%), Aquino (2%), and Hontiveros (1%).
Tulfo's supporters, on the other hand, have equally chosen Duterte and Robredo as their alternative at 19%. On their heels are Pangilinan (14%), Aquino (10%), and Hontiveros (2%).
The next presidential elections will be held on May 8, 2028.
However, recent events saw Duterte facing a pending impeachment trial for allegations of betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, corruption, and other high crimes.
Lawmakers from the House of Representatives have now voted 257 in favor of impeaching the vice president during its first regular session. On the other hand, 25 members opposed the complaint, while nine abstained, and 27 did not vote.
The articles will now be transferred to the Senate. If they find her guilty of the charges, Duterte will be removed from her current post and permanently barred from holding public office.
