Man casually resumes dinner date after killing parking lot scammer—report

In a shocking turn of events in Houston, a crane operator who was on a dinner date was told he got scammed, excused himself to find the scammer, shot the scammer dead, and went back to his dinner date as usual.

The Washington Post reported that Erick Aguirre, 29, was having dinner with a woman at burger joint Rodeo Goat when a restaurant staff informed him that a supposed parking attendant, Elliot Nix, had scammed him $40 (P2,200).

Nix had approached them and told them it would cost $20 (P1,110) each to park their cars. Nix had told them they'll get their money back if they returned from dinner with a receipt.

Aguirre reportedly told his date that he'd be right back to find Nix. But instead of asking for his money back, Aguirre reportedly grabbed a pistol from his car to shoot Nix.

He then returned to the burger joint, telling his date that "everything was fine" and that he "just scared" the scammer, The Post reported, citing a probable cause affidavit.

But the next day, the woman was "shocked" to see a photo of herself on the news, and that she's a person of interest in the shooting incident. The woman then talked to the police about Aguirre.

Aguirre was subsequently arrested in Aransas County and extradited to Harris County on April 25. He was charged with murder, and could face life imprisonment if found guilty.

The woman, meanwhile, isn't considered a suspect and won't be charged for the crime, The Post reported.

"She was devastated to learn of the death of the complainant,” said her lawyer Rick DeToto, who refused to identify her. "She was simply having dinner with the defendant and was unaware of the shooting."

Authorities haven't shared information about how Aguirre and the woman started dating.

Aguirre's lawyer also didn't respond to a request for comment according to The Post.
