The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) announced that the Philippines' new P20 coin has been named as one of three finalists for the Best New Coins award at the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA).

The New Generation Currency (NGC) P20 coin, which will soon replace its banknote version, is competing with Mexico’s 20 Pesos commemorative coin and Kazakhstan’s 200 Tenge coin.

IACA, an international exchange for consultation and collaboration on the cash payments cycle, said that the finalists were selected from 39 nominated projects that represented important initiatives by teams at 20 central banks, three commercial banknote issuers, nine suppliers to the banknote industry, and one banknote distribution system.

They also hope "to promote and and recognize excellence in banknote and coin production, processing, management, distribution and related activities of the cash community."

The said bi-color P20 coin featuring the BSP logo, Malacañan Palace and Nilad Plant on the reverse side, and the former President Manuel Quezon on the obverse side was officially launched in 2019.

IACA will announce winners on Feb. 22, 2022, in conjunction with The Banknote and Currency Conference in Washington, DC, through the voting selection of its delegates.
