LOOK: DOTr ignites the holiday spirit with colorful 'Christmas Trains'
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! 50 days before the festive day, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) began treating passengers to a joyful ride through the season, with new decorations at the MRT Line 3.
“Makulay at maningning ang biyahe sakay ng tinaguriang ‘Christmas Train’ ng MRT-3, na patuloy ang pag-arangkada sa mainline,” the agency wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday, Nov. 9.
The Christmas Train was launched on Nov. 8 as part of DOTr's “ParaTren na ang Pasko” program. They also deployed a choir consisting of staff from both MRT-3 and LRT-2 who serenaded the passengers with Christmas songs and handed out candies for a simple cheer.
“Sa ating mga Christmas trains, layon namin makapagbigay nang kahit konting saya sa kanilang araw, lalo na sa mga pagod na komyuter habang sila’y pauwi galing sa kanilang trabaho,” Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette Aquino told GMA’s 24 Oras.
The train featured decorations inspired by the Gingerbread House, a kitchen area with Christmas embellishments, and more sweet Christmas treats.
According to Aquino, they are still assessing whether the agency would provide free train rides in the coming days approaching Christmas.
MRT-3 operating hours start from 4:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m, while LRT-2 operates from 5:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
