Free walking tours in Intramuros are back every weekend
Thinking of plans for the weekend? Here's something exciting for history buffs: Free walking tours in Intramuros are back every weekend.
The Intramuros Administration announced that the free tours will be available at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday. Department of Tourism-accredited guides will take you on a journey through history as you take a stroll in Fort Santiago and Casa Manila.
The tours will be open for walk-ins only, with 25 slots available per batch. It's on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure to get to the venue early.
To secure a slot, register at the Intramuros Visitors Center for the one-hour Fort Santiago tour and at the stairway entrance of Casa Manila for the 30-minute museum tour.
The regular P75 entrance fee still applies. A discounted rate for children, senior citizens, students, PWDs, and government employees is priced at P50.
Fort Santiago is one of the oldest forts built in Manila in 1571. Located within the walled city, this historical site is where the Philippine national hero Jose Rizal was imprisoned for 56 days before he was executed.
Among the sites to see at the fort are the 16th-century royal warehouses, the dungeons, the chapel-cell for Rizal, ruins of the American barracks, and the wall of martyrs.
Meanwhile, Casa Manila, or the Manila House, is a museum featuring the lifestyle of affluent Filipinos during the Spanish occupation.
Visitors can check out different rooms like the azotea, the colonial house kitchen, the comedor or dining room, and more.
