LTO revokes license of hit-and-run SUV driver, now 'perpetually disqualified' from driving again
The Land and Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked the license of the driver involved in a hit-and-run accident in Mandaluyong City.
The move comes after the driver reportedly named Jose Antonio V. Sanvicente failed to comply with the final show cause order issued by the LTO after a video went viral of him running over a guard named Christian Floralde with his white Toyota RAV 4.
The incident happened behind Megamall at the corner of J. Vargas and St. Francis street.
After failing to show up to his first and consecutive show orders, Sanvincente's license was initially placed under preventive suspension for 90 days. However, upon further investigation, the transport office also found that the driver had previous records of reckless driving in 2010, 2015, and 2016.
With his past apprehensions and latest incident in mind, the LTO then revoked his license and charged Sanvicente with "Reckless Driving and for violating Section 55 (Duty of driver in case of an accident) of R.A. 4136" for abandoning the scene.
Along with the removal of his license, Sanvincente is also "perpetually disqualified from securing a driver’s license and driving a motor vehicle."
"Together with his disregard for the authority of the Land Transportation Office, his acts are considered unacceptable behaviors of a driver," the LTO wrote.
"Taken as a whole, his actions are tantamount to the acts of an improper person to operate a motor vehicle pursuant to Section 27 (a) of R.A. 4136 otherwise known as the 'Land Transportation and Traffic Code.'"
After the public outrage triggered by the viral video, PNP Directorate for Operations chief Maj. Gen. Valeriano de Leon urged the public from sending threats to the driver.
"Huwag po nating hayaang mamayani ang galit sa ating mga puso dahil wala pong maibubungang maganda ito," de Leon shared in a statement on June 9.
"It is enough that we work together to help solve crimes and maintain peace and order. Let your PNP take care of the rest."
