Duterte, Robredo call Filipinos to emulate national heroes, get vaccinated in Bonifacio Day messages
President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo both urged Filipinos to embody the spirit of Andres Bonifacio during the 158th birth anniversary of the Father of the Philippine Revolution today, Nov. 30.
“I invite every Filipino to become a hero like Bonifacio by participating actively in our nation-building efforts, especially in those challenging times when we have to secure our nation’s health, safety, and wellness,” Duterte said in his speech during the Bonifacio Day commemoration exercises at the Pinaglabanan Shrine in San Juan City.
“In this light, I call on our kababayans to emulate Gat Andres Bonifacio’s strong sense of civic duty, courage, and love of country in our daily lives, even in the simplest ways."
In his speech during Bayan Bakunahan mass vaccinations launch, Duterte also likened getting vaccinated to being a hero and as “a resounding expression” of the bayanihan spirit exhibited by Bonifacio.
Bayan Bakunahan is the administration's three-day vaccination drive running from Nov. 29 to Dec 1. Also known as the National Vaccination Days, the drive aims to inoculate around 9 million Filipinos with over 8,000 sites in the country.

Meanwhile, the vice president also called on Filipinos to emulate the national hero by taking a stand against injustices.
"Tumindig si Bonifacio, at nagsilbi itong inspirasyon sa pagtindig ng marami pang iba. Nagsisilbi siyang inspirasyon hanggang sa ngayon: Binabalikan natin ang kanyang halimbawa sa tuwing kailangan nating itaya ang lahat sa ngalan ng katarungan at makataong lipunan," her statement reads.
"Patnubay pa rin natin ang kaniyang mga salita: “Walang mahalagang hindi inihandog/ Ng may pusong mahal sa Bayang nagkupkop;/ Dugo, yaman, dunong, katiisa’t pagod/ Buhay ma’y abuting magkalagut-lagot."
"Pag-ibig itong handang magsakripisyo at ibuhos ang lahat. Patuloy natin itong isabuhay sa araw-araw; sa ganitong paraan, mapapanday natin ang bansang pinangarap ng ating mga bayani."
