Duterte’s counsel Salvador Medialdea rushed to hospital in Netherlands
Atty. Salvador Medialdea was taken to a Hague hospital during a scheduled visit to Rodrigo Duterte earlier today, the Philippine Embassy in The Netherlands posted on Facebook.
At 8:55 a.m. Central European Time (3:55 p.m. Manila time), Medialdea was at the reception counter of the ICC Detention Center when he “fell ill.” The Embassy official who accompanied him to the ICC immediately alerted the Detention Center medic.
An ambulance brought Medialdea to a Hague hospital. Senator Robin Padilla, who was waiting outside the penitentiary along with staff from the Philippine Embassy, left with the ambulance.
After receiving treatment at the emergency room, Medialdea is now in a regular hospital room with a close relative.
Former executive secretary Medialdea is one of Duterte’s supporting legal counsels in the ICC trial. He was present when the former president first appeared before the court last Friday.
