Singaporean man hit with P168K fine for locking 9 ex-colleagues in their office
Revenge had gone wrong for a Singaporean man hit with a S$4,000 (P168,000) fine for making a vengeful act against his employer who fired him a year ago.
The man, identified as Vic Lim Soing Hock, was hired as a driver and logistics assistant for an electronics company at Pantech Business Hub on July 1, 2022. His tenure was cut to two months because his employer fired him on Aug. 30, 2022, before he finished his probationary period.
Distressed at what just happened, the 52-year-old man planned his revenge and went to his first stop—a nearby hardware shop—to buy a padlock.
He then proceeded to his former office and locked its only door in retaliation for being fired.
Apparently, there were nine employees inside the office at that time. They did not know that they were locked from the outside until one of their colleagues had to step out and use the comfort room.
A locksmith was eventually sent to the workplace to remove the padlock, while the company owner filed a police report against Lim that evening.
On August 7 of this year, a court in Singapore found Lim guilty of wrongful confinement for locking his nine ex-colleagues in an office for about an hour. CCTV footage was used as evidence to incriminate him for his crime.
Lim had been handed a S$4,000 (P168,000) fine and possible imprisonment of up to three years.
