Woman leaves P159 million fortune to pets, nothing to children who didn't take care of her when she was ill
An elderly woman decided to leave her 20 million yuan (P159 million) fortune to her dogs and cats instead of her children who never visited her when she got sick.
South China Morning Post reported that the woman surnamed Liu initially planned on giving her assets to her three kids when she dies, but it changed when they did not bother to take care of her when she was ill and only reached out to her when they felt like it.
According to a report by Zonglan News, Liu said that "only her pet cats and dogs are there for her."
A veterinary clinic is currently on top of her inheritance and is taking care of her furry friends.
SCMP stated that a Will Registration Center official in Beijing said that Liu's decision isn't legal in the country, though "there are alternatives to solve this issue."
"Liu’s current will is one way, and we would have advised her to appoint a person she trusts to supervise the vet clinic to ensure the pets are properly cared for," he said.
Another official shared that Liu has been made aware of the risks that could come with her move.
"We told Auntie Liu that if her children change their attitude towards her, she could always alter her will again," they said.
