South Korea is looking to employ 100 Filipino caregivers this year.

The Department of Migrant Workers in an announcement said that the pilot project under the Employment Permit System (EPS) aims to expand bilateral labor ties between the Philippines and Korea and "assess the feasibility of a larger caregiver deployment plan between the two countries."

DMW said that The Philippines is the "first country to enter into a bilateral labor Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Korea under the aegis of the EPS, which began in 2004."

Under the pilot project, qualified caregivers will "provide caregiving assistance to eligible Korean households, specifically, those composed of dual-income couples, single-parent families, or families with pregnant women."

They will be mainly assisting children, including infants, and pregnant women, and help in "carrying out daily activities such as cleaning, laundry, and kitchen work related to caregiving, and other duties necessary."

Who can apply?

The project is looking for female individuals aged 24 to 38 years old (as of the first day of registration) with a valid TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) NCII on Caregiving certificate.

They must also pass two rounds of screening: the Korean Language Test, medical and psychological health examination, English screening interview, and physical test.

Those with contagious diseases such as syphilis, tuberculosis, hepatitis, and more are prohibited from signing up. However, those with herniated discs and finger amputations may still register but will be assessed if they are fit for the job.

Those who have been found to have a criminal and drug record, a record of deportation from Korea and travel restriction from the Philippines, are color blind, and have more than 5 (five) years stay in Korea with E-9 or E-10 visa will be disqualified.
How to apply?

The registration period is from May 9 to 10, 2024 from 5 p.m. until the 1,500 slots have been filled.

Interested caregivers must register via https://eps.dmw.gov.ph. They must also submit their passport, a 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm ID picture, the TESDA certificate, and TOEIC Speaking or OPic certificate with an intermediate high or higher rate.

Applicants must pay the examination fee of $24 or around P1,374 on May 16 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Payment can be made via any bank account or GASH/MAYA Card.

The tentative date of the announcement of test schedules will be on May 22. The Computer-based test (CBT), Skills Test and Interview will be held at the DMW Main Office, Ortigas Avenue corner EDSA, Mandaluyong City.

According to DMW, qualified caregivers will be employed under accredited agencies by the MOEL under strict standards to "ensure equal treatment from their employers under labor standards and protection of human rights."The DMW and MOEL-HRDK will undertake the recruitment and hiring procedure for caregivers from May to July 2024."

After selection, candidates will undergo the required pre-departure and post-arrival Orientation/briefing. Korean households will likewise be required to undergo orientation.
