22-year-old passenger dies after medical emergency on flight to Los Angeles

A 22-year-old passenger died after experiencing a medical emergency aboard a Southwest Airlines flight from Dallas to Los Angeles.

Southwest Airlines Flight 958 was traveling to Los Angeles International Airport on Friday morning, Aug. 7, when the passenger became unresponsive, according to law enforcement sources cited by NBC Los Angeles.

The man, identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office as Rain McMillan Walmsey, was reportedly given CPR while the plane was still in the air.

Medics responded as soon as the plane landed at Los Angeles International Airport, but Walmsey could no longer be revived. 

In a statement, Southwest Airlines confirmed that a "medical incident involving a customer" occurred aboard Flight 958 but did not provide further details.

The nature of the medical emergency has not been disclosed as the case remains under investigation, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.
