Jay-Z accused of raping a 13-year-old girl with Sean 'Diddy' Combs
Trigger warning: This article details rape.
Rapper Jay-Z, or Shawn Carter in real life, is facing a civil lawsuit accusing him of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 alongside Sean "Diddy" Combs, the disgraced rap mogul in jail for charges of sex trafficking and others.
NBC News reported that the accused, identified only as a Jane Doe, in the federal lawsuit filed in October, said the assault happened after she was driven to an MTV Music Video Awards after-party in New York in 2000.
The lawsuit claims that Combs and Carter raped her after a friend dropped her off at the VMAs at Radio City Music Hall.
Without a ticket to the VMAs, she approached various limousine drivers to try to gain access to the show or an after-party.
One driver who worked for Combs allegedly told her she "fit what Diddy was looking for," the suit says.
The driver invited her to the after-party, telling her to return to his car later in the evening after transporting Carter and Combs.
When the driver picked her up, they arrived at a white house in a U-shaped driveway after 20 minutes. Before joining the party, which was allegedly filled with marijuana and cocaine, she claimed to have signed a document that she believed was a nondisclosure agreement. She didn't receive a copy of the document, according to the suit.
She was offered a drink that made her feel “woozy, lightheaded and felt [like] she needed to lie down.” She then went into a room to rest, the suit says.
But shortly afterward, the suit says, Combs and Carter entered the room with Combs saying, “You are ready to party!”
That’s when Carter allegedly removed her clothes, held her down, and raped her while Combs and an unnamed female celebrity watched. Combs also raped her eventually, while Carter and the woman watched.
She recalled being able to resist performing oral sex on Combs by hitting him in the neck, the suit says.
After the alleged assault, she “grabbed her clothes” and left. She made her way to a gas station, where she called her father.
The accuser is seeking unspecified damages.
The lawsuit originally listed Combs as a defendant but was refiled on Sunday, Dec. 10, to include Carter.
Tony Buzbee, the lawyer who filed the suit on behalf of the Jane Doe, also filed several assault and rape suits against Combs in recent months. They all withheld the complainants' names.
Sunday's suit was the first time he named another high-profile defendant.
Before the refiling, Buzbee said in the suit, "Carter received a letter from Plaintiff’s counsel requesting a mediation to resolve this matter."
Carter then filed a lawsuit against Buzbee and others.
"My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a 'lawyer' named Tony Buzbee," Carter said in a statement sent to NBC News. "What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle."
"No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion. So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!" he added.
Carter pointed out that the allegations are "so heinous in nature," and that he's imploring for the filing of a criminal complaint and not a civil one. The lawsuit was filed under New York’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act.
"Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?" Carter said.
"These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case."
Carter said his "only heartbreak is for my family."
"My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence," he added.
Combs's representative didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.
He has repeatedly denied all accusations against him.
Combs, who was arrested in September, is facing charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges but could face life imprisonment if convicted.
Over 100 individuals, including dozens of children, are suing Combs, saying they're victims of rape, sexual assault, and sexual exploitation at his hands.
