UP Diliman's popular Jing's Lutong Bahay to cease operations on Oct. 14
Jing's Lutong Bahay, a longtime carinderia in the University of the Philippines Diliman that has catered to generations of Iskos and Iskas, will cease its operations on Oct. 14 amid financial difficulties.
"The past year of navigating through challenges was quite exciting, but sadly, not sustainable, which has prompted us to wind things down," Jing's said in a Facebook post on Sept. 25.
It noted that it will continue serving their favorites, including fruit shakes and bilao/bulk orders, "up to the last day." Party packs must be ordered two days in advance and with a deposit.
Jing's noted that it was born in a home kitchen.
From catering to Bar reviewees as a hobby for the owner's mother and as a means to help their father financially, the brand said it became a modest side business the following semester, "when word spread that my Mama's cooking makes not just your tummy full but your hearts as well."
"No one imagined this karinderia will grow into a 52-year-old landmark in UP Diliman," it said. "How far it has come to help so many lives; how much we've experienced!"
The carinderia thanked those who made it "a part of your pahinga, celebrations and all those in between."
"We've built so many good memories over the years, and we only want to leave you with happy thoughts," it added.
Several commenters thanked the establishment, sharing some of their experiences dining there.
"Noooo huhu, wala na akong mapagbibilihan ng paborito kong mango graham shake. Thank you for your service and the good memories," one user said.
"Never ending thank you sa inyong lahat sa Lutong Bahay," another user said. "Lumaki kami na luto ninyo ang naging takbuhan namin kapag walang ulam sa bahay. Naging parte din po kayo ng aming pamilya at ng bawat pamilya sa ating maliit na komunidad. Marami kaming mami-miss na luto niyo. Kayo pa rin ang OG at GOAT namin! Padayon sa bagong yugto."
Jing's has been posting its menu of the day every morning. It's also known for its fruit shakes, which come in a buy-one-get-one promo.
