Time to book: Flight fuel surcharges are dropping to Level 13 this June
Good news for travelers: Your next vacation just got a little cheaper. If you have been holding off on booking those plane tickets, early June might be the time to do so.
The Civil Aeronautics Board has released its latest advisory, revealing that the interim passenger and cargo fuel surcharge will go down from Level 15 down to Level 13 for the June 1 to 15 window.
This drop in the tier level means a noticeable decrease in add-on costs across the board. Under the new Level 13 bracket, airlines may charge passengers flying domestic routes between P423 and P1,237 in fuel surcharge fees.
Passengers on international flights will still face higher surcharges depending on their travel distance, but these rates will also decline. The international surcharge will now range from P1,396.74 to P10,385.42, down from the previous ceiling of P1,621.42 to P12,056.
According to the CAB, airlines that wish to impose or collect the fuel surcharge for this upcoming period must file their application with the office on or before the effectivity date.
The approved rates must not exceed the stated Level 13 caps, and the applicable foreign exchange conversion rate for this window has been set at P61.45 to USD 1.
This adjustment is a huge relief for travelers compared to mid-April, when additional charges peaked at Level 19. During that time, travelers were forced to pay as much as P1,834 in extra charges for domestic flights and up to P15,397.15 for international routes.
