Here's how much prize money Alex Eala earned after winning her first WTA title
When Alex Eala won the 2026 Mubadala DC Open championship against World No. 3 Jessica Pegula, she didn't just etch a moment in Philippine history. The 21-year-old also won a considerable amount of prize money.
According to WTA, Eala received $252,000 (about P15.4 million) for winning the WTA 500 tournament. Pegula, as the finalist, took home $155,000 (about P9.5 million).
Aside from cash, Eala's world ranking also jumped eight spots, landing her in the 20th rank with 500 points.
Based on statistics published by WTA, Eala has earned $1,537,330 (over P94 million) from her winnings this year alone.
With her prize money, Eala also received a golden trophy. It was designed by Abu Dhabi artist Azza Al Qubaisi, who was commissioned by Mubadala Investment Company, the exclusive title sponsor of the DC Open.
Eala and Pegula's finals match began early Monday morning, Aug. 3 (Philippine time) but had to be postponed to the next day because of bad weather. Although Pegula claimed the first set, Eala rallied and took the next two sets with a 4–6, 6–4, 6–0 victory.
To get to the finals, Eala defeated four other top seeds and Olympians: Zheng Qinwen, defending champion Leylah Fernandez, World No. 2 Elina Svitolina, and four-time Grand Slam champion and No. 3 seed Naomi Osaka.
