One of the scene-stealers at the Met Gala 2023 happens to be a cockroach
Even though this year's Met Gala aimed to shine the spotlight on Hollywood's A-listers flaunting their extravagant looks in celebration of the late king of couture, Karl Lagerfeld, it seems that all eyes instead fell on one pesky critter that became an unexpected scene stealer at the venue.
The theme of this year's most prestigious fashion event is called "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," which pays homage to German-born designer's contribution to the fashion industry.
As reporters and the crowd awaited for celebrities to walk up the stairs of the Upper East Side museum, photographer Kevin Mazur could not help but focus his lens on a cockroach that was trying to get its own red carpet moment at the charity gala.

In a video by Variety, the cockroach could be seen running up the steps as the crowd urged Mazur to take a picture of it, which he did. Unfortunately, the uninvited guest could not even make its way inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art before it was ultimately stomped to death.

Even though the cockroach only had a few moments to shine, it was enough for social media users to immortalize its presence through hilarious memes.
One Twitter user posted a picture of the critter entering a car, joking that it was on its way to the Met Gala.
Another one meanwhile shared an image of an intricate sculpture of a cockroach and wrote that it was the close-up look of the critter's outfit at the glamorous fashion event.
In a similar tweet, one user posted a picture of a cockroach wearing a pink skirt, joking that it was the outfit that the attention-grabbing bug was wearing.
Held annually, the Met Gala is a charity event spearheaded by Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour that aims to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Celebrities and personalities who are considered the best of the best in their field of expertise are invited to the gala.
