Welcome Generation Beta: New Year baby born in Manila hospital
The Philippines welcomed its first members of Generation Beta as it rang in the new year.
In Manila, 27-year-old Lea Mae Razo gave birth to a baby girl as fireworks lit up the sky to mark 2025. Her child, named Alea Jayde, is the first to be born this year at Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital.
According to a report by GMA Integrated News, Razo was in labor for 13 hours since Dec. 31, 2024, 11 a.m.
"Hindi ko naman po ine-expect na manganganak ako eksaktong 12. Siguro ganun talaga, 2025 new blessings din," she told the local outlet.
The 27-year-old, a first-time mother, carried her baby for 40 weeks.
"Mahirap po talaga mag-labor. Lahat ng sakit mararanasan mo. Pero 'pag nakita mo na si baby. mawawala na," she shared, adding that she wishes for her child to grow up healthy and God-fearing.
Midwife May Alipio shared her joy in being part of welcoming the Gen Beta New Year baby.
"Iba 'yung happiness. Iba 'yung pakiramdam lalong lalo na wala akong anak," she said.
Almost an hour later, another baby girl was born in the Manila hospital, according to an ABS-CBN News report.
Alea Jayde is part of Generation Beta—a cohort of children born from Jan. 1, 2025 to 2039. Succeeding Generation Alpha, the new generation will live in a world with artificial intelligence embedded in their daily lives.
Gen Beta, according to social research agency McCrindle, will make up 16% of the global population. They will be the children of younger millennials and older Gen Zs.
