St. Luke’s - Global City enters into a futuristic era with the Philippines’ first photon-counting CT scanner

St. Luke’s Medical Center - Global City has unveiled the Siemens Naeotom Alpha.Peak, the world’s first photon-counting CT scanner. With this milestone, St. Luke’s becomes the first private hospital in the Philippines to house this groundbreaking technology, reinforcing its leadership in medical innovation.

A leap beyond conventional imaging

Unlike conventional CT scans that rely on Energy Integrating Detectors (EID) and a two-step conversion process, Photon-Counting CT directly detects each X-ray photon and its energy level. This eliminates data loss and image “noise,” resulting in sharper, more precise scans.

St. Luke’s - Global City acquires the Siemens Naeotom Alpha.Peak photon counting CT scan, the top-of-the-line model of the Alpha series, giving patients a much faster, safer, and more precise scanning experience.

The Naeotom Alpha.Peak delivers resolution as fine as 0.2mm—and up to 0.11mm for ultra-high-resolution imaging. This enables radiologists to detect minute lung nodules, delicate ear structures, or subtle fractures that traditional scanners might miss. For cardiac patients, the system can remove obstructions caused by calcium or metal stents, providing clear views inside vessel lumens—often eliminating the need for invasive procedures.

Patient-centered precision
  • Beyond clarity, the PCCT prioritizes safety and efficiency.
  • Lower radiation dose without compromising image quality.
  • Reduced contrast agent use, minimizing kidney strain.
  • Automatic spectral imaging, producing colorized tissue differentiation in every scan.
  • Ultra-fast speed, ideal for pediatric patients or those unable to remain still, often reducing the need for sedation.

Dr. Maricar P. Reyes, head of the St. Luke’s - Global City Institute of Radiology, highlights: “With the Photon-Counting CT, we can now see things that were simply impossible to visualize with conventional scans. Every photon is counted, every detail captured—giving physicians and patients total confidence in their medical journey.”

Commitment to innovation

St. Luke’s Medical Center continues to deliver world-class healthcare by combining cutting-edge technology with Filipino compassion. By introducing the country’s first PCCT, the hospital empowers patients with safer, faster, and more accurate diagnostics.
