Millions of cash fly out of motorcycle rider's bag in Cebu City

Some motorists considered it a blessing sent from above when they came across a bundle of cash on the ground—but for the remittance firm collector who did not notice his millions of moolah falling out of his backpack, it was a really, really bad day.

On Tuesday, July 4, motorists were seen collecting bills on the Cebu South Coastal Road after P4 million worth of cash flew out of a man's broken backpack while he was onboard a motorcycle.

In an interview on a local radio station, John Mark Barrientos, who works for an e-wallet loading kiosk at a mall, said he only knew that his bag's zipper broke when money began flying out on the road.

As seen in a now-viral video of the incident, some helped pick up the cash while others decided to keep them.

According to the Mambaling Police Station, at least three people have separately turned over thousands of money to authorities as of Wednesday, July 5.

Around P2 million has been returned to him. P1 million, however, remains missing.

Police staff Sergeant Jonas Recaplaza said in an interview with a local radio station that they are now in touch with the collector who will go to their station to get his money back.

The MPS also said they are now tracking down those who got some cash and refused to return them, adding that they could face legal action for it.
