By John Patrick Magno Ranara Published Feb 08, 2024 5:38 pm

The dragon in Chinese culture is not only a symbol of great power, luck, and strength, but it also stands as a majestic and beautiful emblem.

If you're looking for unique ways to celebrate the Year of the Dragon this 2024, make your way to Manila Ocean Park. This theme park is known for its stunning aquariums, and it is holding a special Lunar New Year event that blends mythology with marine wonder.

Titled “The Mermaid of the Dragon Seas,” the underwater performance serves as a tribute to the Chinese cultural heritage, rooted in the themes of prosperity, strength, and the ushering of good fortune in the new year.

The performance combines the grace and mystery of a mermaid with the mythical grandeur of the dragon and it takes place in the park’s famous curved acrylic walkway tunnel in the Oceanarium exhibit, a perfect setting to marvel at the live mermaid show.

Seeing the diver embody the allure of a water enchantress while being surrounded by an array of aquatic creatures is a visual delight that seems to come straight out of a fairy tale. In fact, with the right timing, you may even see the gorgeous manta rays trying to steal the spotlight!

"We have been doing this event for the last decade here in Manila Ocean Park. We would like to have our mermaid as the dragon of the seas to spread the good life, prosperity, and fertility to the ocean. Our mermaids are also guardians of the seas who will protect and will guide all of us in this coming new year," said Mary Joyce Arias, Vice President for Sales and Marketing at Manila Ocean Park.
