Alas Pilipinas player Ike Barilea dies at 21
Alas Pilipinas pool player Ike Barilea has died two days after he celebrated his 21st birthday.
The national team announced his passing in a post on Facebook on Nov. 11.
"The court feels emptier, and our hearts heavier. Rest easy, ALAS IKE BARILEA," it said, sharing several photos of the young volleyball player with the team, read.
"Thank you for the laughter, the memories and the heart you gave to the team. Heaven gained an angel, but we lost a piece of ours."
The cause of his death was not disclosed.
Barilea, who hails from Negros, was part of the men's pool for the 2025 FIVB Men's World Championship as an opposite spiker. His first and only stint for the national team was for Alas Pilipinas-Cignal's stint in the 2025 AVC Men's Volleyball Champions League in May.
Prior to that, he represented 1Silay Volleyball Club in the 2025 PNVF U21 National Volleyball Championships Men's Division.
