Why the MMFF will not disclose earnings, rankings of entries for 2025

The Metro Manila Film Festival has dismissed fake social media posts showing the alleged earnings of the 2025 entries, saying the film festival has decided not to release such data.

MMFF spokesperson Noel Ferrer recently set the record straight on Facebook, revealing that the film festival's executive committee struck an agreement with the entries' producers regarding this decision.

"The MMFF Executive Committee refrains from disclosing official rankings and box office grosses, as per our agreement with the producers, in order to mitigate the bandwagon effect that may potentially impact the performance of our entries," Ferrer wrote.

In previous years, there was a tendency for audiences to patronize the films that they heard were earning the most, leaving the less popular entries with lower ticket sales.

This year, the MMFF is hoping to stir up equal support for all its films.

"...we encourage the public to experience and support all the films showcased in this year's MMFF, thereby demonstrating your unwavering love and appreciation for the Philippine film industry," Ferrer continued.

There are eight films in this year's MMFF: Call Me Mother, Love You So Bad, UnMarry, Bar Boys: After School, I'mPerfect, Manila's Finest, Shake, Rattle and Roll: Evil Origins, and Rekonek.
