No date for Valentine's this year? No problem for government employees in General Luna, Quezon.

Municipal Mayor Matt Florido issued Executive Order No. 09, granting single local government employees two special stress leaves or two days of double pay on February 15th and 16th.

According to the EO, this measure was implemented in accordance with Republic Act No. 11058 or the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Act giving importance to the well-being of workers.

"Ilang araw na lang at sasapit na naman ang Valentine's Day/ Sa ating mga single employees, ramdam ko ang inyong pinagdadaanan lalo na at papalapit na ang Araw ng mga Puso. Mahal ko kayong lahat, kaya naman muli nating inihahandog ang espesyal na pribiliheyo upang mag-enjoy naman kayo ngayong darating na Valentine's," Florido wrote on Facebook.

Florido states that "Valentine's Day can be a source of stress for many single individuals" and that they may need "opportunity for self-care and rejuvenation."

Thus, all single employees in the General Luna municipal government are given a special stress leave "with full pay" on February 15 and 16, which will be "personally shouldered" by Florido and "not be charged to government funds."

To verify if those who will be applying for the leaves are indeed single, the EO states that the LGU's Human Resources office and a specialized verification committee will conduct a confidential investigation to approve or deny the applications.

Single government employees who opt to come to work will be rewarded with double pay.

This isn't the first time a romance-related leave was implemented as Florido offered the same special leave for single government employees in 2022.

In February 2023, a Cebu hotel also offered "break-up paid leaves" in February to its employees who were left by their lovers.
