Southeast Asian directors wanted!

The QCinema International Film Festival is calling for young filmmakers from Southeast Asia to join its new international short film competition where they can have a chance to have their films get a Philippine premiere.

The contest, titled “QC-SEA Shorts Competition,” is open to directors aged 18 and above.

Films of any genre—including documentary, experimental, or narrative–are accepted as long as it was produced from January 2022 to August 2023. Entries must have a running time of maximum 20 minutes, and non-English submissions must include English subtitles.

According to the organization, the film must not be available on any streaming platforms accessible in the Philippines, whether free or paid.

To apply, one must fill out an online application form. The contestant must also submit a synopsis of the film in 100-200 words, along with a film poster and screener link, which should be made available until Dec. 31, 2023.

A 200-word bio and headshot of the director are also required.

Interested filmmakers may submit their entries until Sept. 1 at 11:59 p.m.

Selected films will be premiered at the 11th edition of the annual QCinema this November 17 to 26, 2023.

Last year, films like Triangle of Sadness, Nocebo, and To the North, were included in the lineup.
